What do you guys think of overload functions?  A little risky logically?

An overload function is a code with the same name of any function.  Something like this..

FUNCTION myFunction ( VAR );
FUNCTION myFunction ( VAR, VAR, VAR );

However when it is executed the function will only execute the code with the same amount of parameters.

Is it a good idea to do this?  I think if the function does a very similar task than it is OK to use this, but I am not even sure about that.
