Green Limo
« on: May 06, 2010, 01:52:04 PM »
http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/05/06/leguizamo.urban.biking/index.html?hpt=C2

When writer-actor John Leguizamo shows up to do a show in New York, fans outside the theater are surprised to see him ride up on a bicycle. "People go, 'Hey, John, I thought you'd be in a limo.'

"This is my limo, my green limo. I'm saving the planet for your kids and your grandkids," says the performer, who has starred in award-winning one-man shows on Broadway and appeared in dozens of films and TV shows.

Biking gets you places faster, reduces your carbon footprint, lowers noise, makes you fit and lowers your stress level -- unless you get impaled on the door of a suddenly opened cab or cut off by a guy from New Jersey.

Leguizamo thinks urban biking is a form of transportation that dramatically improves the environment and riders' physical and mental health.

New York City's government shares Leguizamo's enthusiasm about biking, having added 200 miles of bike lanes in the past three years. The city says it has seen a 45 percent increase in commuting by bike.

Kinjo Note: Well he is right, i bike everywhere. I feel better, and think better. SAVE THE SEALS!

Biking does not get you places faster, and he was a total dumbass.  But Biking does save the earth a little bit. one person at a time.

in NY it does, which was where the guy was talking about. Same for SF streets are crowded an parking is hard to find in big cities.
Also, about the 100lbs of phosphorus, thats a random element as a bi-product, but think of it this way:

There is a one time emission for creating a bike, and then there is no more emissions for its use.

For a vehicle, there is a one time emission for creating a vehicle, but never ending emissions for its use.

suck in the carbon dioxide! drink the fumes, ill be over here on my bike! 8 miles today!

i had a talk with [tkoold] the other day about this

i told him his whole life was spent in a box

AVERAGE LIFE

1. Wake up in bed. In your room which is a BOX in a bigger BOX your house/apartment.

2. Maybe have 1-3 minutes outside to reach your car. Get in your car which is another BOX

3. Arrive at gym or work/job in your car, walk outside Maybe Have 1-3 minutes outside to the front/back/side doors of building. Go inside the building BOX

This is most people routines. Maybe after work go to a bar, or friends house. Still BOX BOX BOX! Finally when you die.

4. Coffin = Box

We as humans originally lived on the land, outside 90%+ of the day. Fresh air, exercise, surrounded by life. When i go biking i feel it. I might sound hippie, but i'd rather be hippy then a modern zombie.

So I say get outside, it's spring, try to feel good and think about how lucky we are to have a planet full of life.

I dont have a bike (I walk lots though), but a agree that biking is a good way to imporve the earth;

If you are complaining about the metal used to make a bike; cars use so much more, and then those parts break, and then you replace them with even more, and then those parts break, you you replace them again, and then eventually the car is crap, and it gets junked, and you buy another. Now include car insurance, add in gas costs; a waste of money if you drive places a bike can get you.

Carbon dioxide is one of the reasons why the asthma and respiratory disease occurring in adolescents within cities and suburbs is increasing. This might not come across as an issue, but these things can lead to death, and it effects taxes due to higher medical bills and more frequent doctor and hospital visits.

Economically speaking, this is all problematic. On behalf of the ecosystem, this is all problematic.

Its healthy not to breathe in fumes, and to instead be out biking and becoming healthy.

He said that, hurting yourself by riding a bike or something, helps you appreciate life a little more.  I don't understand how hurting yourself and being unhappy helps you be happy.

Notice that appreciating life is different from being happy.

Appreciation of life means you dont take it for granted quite so much.

Well when you are wasting time with stupid stuff, or not appreciating what you have... You constantly breathe, yew you never realize it, unless you can't; same goes for the beating of your heart. When you let a day pass you by, and you dont live each day to the fullest, dont appreciation the time you have, and the life you'll lead, but instead dwell on the past, or make stupid choices to throw your life away, like drinking and driving or doing dangerous illicit drugs.

Also, thanks I love my signature too! Flashwerwolf made it for me!
