Is Anime Dead?
« on: March 06, 2008, 05:21:59 PM »
the past few months the headlines have been pretty bad for anime companies in the west, Geneon USA has shut down, all other anime distributers (whats left of them) have greatly reduced their operations.

newtype USA magazine stopped (which is owned by ADV), toei animation gone

some say its the internet some say its just not as popular anymore

thoughts?

Yeah 2007 was a rough time for anime indeed, but I wouldn't bet that Toei is out of business yet cuz Disney has offically bought Toei, so anime might be reborn!  [8D]

Another main reason that anime might be decling here is because of 4kids, since they're ones that tarnish anime in the beginning with especially on how they've handled One Piece.

yeah anime comes and goes, only once every 5 years is there a boom and the other 4 years it falls off of peoples intrest, this has been going on since the 80's also its only the US operations that are hurting, As far as japan is concerened Genoen ADV and Funimation is doing just fine, its just the US offices and productions that are not being the most profitable.
so what it means is that without buying inport bootlegs its more and more unlikly well see newer/current animes in the future..

I think the reasoning is this: the kids who grew up on anime, grew up. Also, the whole being able to download stuff off the net and getting imports pretty easily nowadays probably didn't help.
Don't wanna live, don't wanna be the E-M-P-I-R-E
