Title: Should I send this in?
Post by: enjoyhappy on January 14, 2010, 10:04:28 PM
My bro found a laptop at his work in the trash and gave it to me to see if I could do anything about it. It's a Compaq Presario f500 in good condition looks like this http://www.pclaunches.com/entry_images/0907/17/hp_compaq_presario_v3600-thumb.jpg I think there's a hardware issue that might be why it was in the trash so I spoke with a HP rep told him the conditions then said I should send it in for repair gave me a discount for 259+tax takes 2-3 days for them to send a box, takes 5-7 days for the repair then 14 days or so for it to come back. Need some comments about this  [ms]

You need to elaborate more on what the problem is.

Why would you suspect hardware problems? What's occurring? Are there visible damages? Does it turn on? What happens when it turns on? What operating system is it running on? Do you get pop ups? Can you access it? Does it go online? Did you check for viruses?

Hmm.. I actually think my friend has that same laptop... looks like it anyway..

How do you know power is going through it? Do you have the charger? Does it light up?

"I would know by now" does not answer how you know.

Yeah Addy is right. You didn't answer her question. I if you can identify the problem, then maybe you can fix it yourself and not spend the money to get it fixed professionally. Good luck to you. Oh and I noticed you're a newbie... I'm Xicor by the way. Nice to meet you and welcome to the 4M. I know this should be done in the introduction section, but all well. lol :)

He's known BD and FW for quite sometime, and yes it should be in the intro thread, so do it there since he did make a topic or reply or w/e.

In regards to your problem Shine, as I said. I recommend that instead of sending it in, as you seem to have already decided upon, you should use that money you would have spent on repairs, and save it. Then sell the laptop for parts for about $50+ and you should have roughly $320, which is about what I spent on my own laptop. Then search out some good deals, I can point you in the direction I got mine, and if I get another Dell Direct coupon, since I get them emailed to me on a constant basis, I'll forward it to you.
