Title: Discovering the Internet

It's something that came into my mind today, and that is when did you discover the internet and when did you begin to become fully enveloped in it??
For me it was at a library in St. Paul near the State Fair Grounds. They had a 14.4 modem, and I got hooked right away. I believe it was in 1994, could even of been 1993. That was so long ago, but I still remember the feeling of the unknown world wide web. I think I even checked out books on computers, internet, programming and software etc just to learn more.

i personally wonder if the internet is here to stay or it will be pushed aside for new technologies like everything else

Honestly, the internet won't be going anywhere. Without it, humanity will require crutches, it's pretty sad that we rely on it so much for all of this limitless information.
I first discovered the internet when we first got a Dell computer in our house circa 1997. I didn't really use it very much until the third grade when I wanted to email a ladyfriend. The rest, as they say, is [unusual] history...

at that time, schools i went to were still using computers with green screens, apple 2s and junk that used 5'12 disks

well, i was lucky to be friends with people who owned 486 computers and owned ones myself, we all had 14400 baud modems which transfered at about 2K a second... or 22 Minues for 1 meg of data VEry slow by todays standards, but cutting edge for 1991-1995

I was very young when I started using the internet, I remember one of the first times someone tried showing me how to double click to open up internet explorer... you know, when that use to be the only web browser anyone knew about

netscape was purchased by aol, but the name netscape is gone
like circuit city, a faded memory

How does AOL still exist? what a scam.. slow web and games or content that shouldnt cost money anymore aol's system is all out of Date obsolete since 2000

Yeah... Aim is the only thing good formed out of AOL still in existance, But AOL as a web service is Incredibly obsolete, it was never a web designed to be fast and it tries to make its own part of the web thats not accessable any other way. i would be mad if i lived in a place that Forced you with time warner cable bundled with AOL web i betcha they force bad DSL on people or somthing lol.

i hated their program it was so cluttered and loaded slower than a snail
i never once paid for AOL, i had tons of free trial 3.5s and discs just didn't care for it
back in AOL's glory days, i used free internet from Netzero, Bluelight and a bunch of other random free internet companies

Yeah that was the best way untill Netzero Couldnt make enough money from giving it away with minimum ads anymore, After 2005 There was No more Free web, Netzero Demanded money and wanted 7.99 a month for web with adds and 9.99 a month for no ads.
