Walt Disney Studios has announced that the only full-length animated feature film to ever be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture is being converted into Digital Disney 3D: The 1991 animated feature film Beauty and the Beast will be re-released in 2010.
The film’s original producers Don Hahn and directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale are using the film’s original computer files to re-render the film in 3D, a process that is expected to take 10 months. “By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we’re able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film,” Hahn said.
It might seem like a strange idea to convert a 2D animated film into a 3D presentation. The original film was a major stepping stone for Disney, blending of traditional animation and computer generated imagery (most notable with audiences was the ballroom scene). But I really wonder how the scenes that don’t involve elaborate computer generated backgrounds will look in three dimensions.
Kinjo Note: i wouldnt appose 3d glasses converstion to see the dance in 3d glasses, but to remake it to be 3d like walle or shrek is dumb

no its not dumb at all, its really fun and Disney Knows how to do 3D perfictly, i saw Night before cristmas and one other 3d Movie i cant remember right now, and they were GREAT plus with disney they Give you 30 Min of the old 1960 Classics in 3D which is More than worth the price of admission! WOOT ill go! i remember when i went to see beauty and the beast when it was Originaly in theaters it was unreal and the Beggining of the rebirth of disney that spawned movies like "The little Mirmade", "Alladin", and the Lion King!

Actually Nightmare was stop-motion, not 3d. trust me, there's a difference. Beauty and the Beast stop-motion would be...freaky, to say the least :poked:
That does sound very interestong, though. I may go see that.

Well 2d animation is stop motion, just under a different name; Frame By Frame.
3D is Pixar, which ruined Disney IMO.

yeah but needless to say they made a 3D version and you wore 3D goggles and it worked and they added scenes and stuff to enhance the movie

This sounds nice. My girlfriend loves the Disney movies. I loved them as a kid, so going with her might be nice. I'll have to check it out.
