Bubos is Greek for swollen glands, and when you had the bubonic plague the glands in your armpit swelled. And the bubonic plague(also referred to as Justinian's plague or the black plague) caused your skin to rot while you were alive! The norweigan rats saved us all by driving out the fleas that caused it. :)
Did you know that in Georgian England they made people drink urine in order to get better? They also used leeches- and the Romans had a doctor stab you to get the 'bad' blood out.

I did know that! They also use cow urine in India for a ton of things, including drinking, shampoo, and natural healing.

Also what is known as "the plague" had three variations; the most commonly well known one is of course the bubonic, but there was also the pneumonic and the septicemic plagues, all cause by yersinia pestis; the bacteria responsible for the plague, which in theory was brought over on Asian merchant ships by the rats that were on board. :> Was my favorite disease in 8th grade!
