Whenever I heard the word when reading the novel I always associated it with oregano.

I thought Paprika, but that was around the days that I was watching Blues Clues.
there are lots of minerals and spices that are used for human consumption, so I think they just used the same term for it, because people consume it for a similar purpose.
Weed is an herb that can be used in cooking, and its a 'drug'
