WILL NOT WORK. First off, If the army uses it, How would they get that closes to the building, without being noticed and take the time long enough to scan and check the readings THEN plan, They plan about these things hours maybe even days before. And if they're in they're not going to stay still, tell everyone to hold their breath (the enemy would hear it) and scan.

Secondly, For fire-fighters, If it's based on heart-rates, the fire fighters heart's will be pumping after break down doors, yelling, and running with 80 pound gear on.

Lastly, How would you determine pets from humans?

"first off" it may not be applicable for the Army, i think that it would be on a scenario to scenario biases with any type of armed conflict and with the improvement of technologies it may be possible to increase the range and accuracy of it, but it is however functional so to rule it out as useless to very premature.

As far with use for firefighters it could be VERY useful.

if you notice on the video it said it uses a type of radio wave transmission (which are Directional), which means the condition of the firefighter has no bearing on the readings it takes.

But you are right AF, that it wouldn't distinguish between humans or animals...not yet anyway. Remember it's purpose to to detect lifesigns.

in general? I dunno anything for star wars, but I think this could work as it is designed and programed as it is. Wether it works in real life situations or just in a technical sense it could 'work'.

i think it would be very functional. in a war zone i dont think a pack of dogs will be sitting in a room. and i think by planning they mean by a few seconds to figure out which way to come in and also having the element of surprise!
