Title: Tipping
Post by: Flashwerewolf on February 01, 2011, 03:32:57 PM

Isn't the reason we work for employers the ability to have a planned level of earnings?
I hate it when people complain they got a shitty tip from a customer.

Actually it's because minimum wage for waitresses and people and jobs that get tips is dramatically reduced. In PA a waitress can work for as much as $3 an hour, and the rest is supposed to be made up in tips. We get cheated out of a lot of money but stiffs who don't tip. ;P

Especially for those people who are just plain nasty and difficult and you work super hard to make them content and then they just walk out... or worse they complain that a decent waitress didnt do a good job usually because of something the kitchen staff messed up on :/

However, tips are not mandatory. That system is flawed and since you volunteered for this job, knowing that it is flawed, you have no grounds to complain.

Change your workplace. Waitressing is an entry level position, so try some other entry level job that offers more secure earnings.

If enough people leave the waitressing field, the pay scale will be re-approached in order to attract people to fill the hole that was left.

Bottom-line, complaining about a voluntary act by a customer in a job field that one willingly sought out, is really really self-centered and just dumb.

sometimes that's all you can get... :I and people are SUPPOSED to leave a 15-20% tip, no its not mandatory because its rude to go "did you leave a tip?" but it is like a social standard... sorta like those people who go in the 10 Items or less line with 20+ items...

So then this job field is intended to be a transition towards something better? There is always self-employment ;)

I think it was the fast food market that really killed the whole tipping thing. But again, if you are comfortable with working at a job that has uncontrollable outliers for earnings then you shouldn't complain. You can complain to the business you work at tho, since they are in charge of that flawed system :B

Yeah well when thats all you can get hired for, you take the job... plus I've done it for free a few times, just because I absolutely love the job and the people c:

Self employment doesn't work for everyone

regular money per hour, tips

are the worse ways to make a living

what i learned for my old boss, is that residual income is the best way to earn a living

I dont think you are getting the concept of "Any work is work that pays" even if it doesnt pay well

Opportunities are always out there, that is what some people fail to see.

Yes and when one in waitressing appears, they take it until another arises

Post by: bloo-apple on February 04, 2011, 08:29:19 PM
yo it's like, the employer is saying to err body, im not going to pay these people, ill let you take care of that, i want yo money!! they can get what you think... from yo pocket.
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 04, 2011, 11:33:09 PM
.... what..?
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Flashwerewolf on February 05, 2011, 10:34:02 AM
yeah, it is a messed up model! I suppose at some point, waiters and waitresses were making BANK when they were paid normal wages and they were tipped. So then employers stepped in and created a more balanced system that we see today. Only NOW people tip less and less often with the economy the way it is and the people suffering are the employees.

I always hated how my employers would tell me to refuse tips from customers. Since I worked alone all day, I'd just accept em ;P
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 05, 2011, 12:12:05 PM
I don't like the system either, but usually it pays decent... changes by the night; sometimes you get $100+ fora 4 hour shift, but other nights you get maybe $20... usually it balances itself out to a rough average

I thought this thread was "tripping" and got exited.

That being said, i used to work for tips and always tip big now because of it
i hated it when i delivered like nine pizzas halfway across town and get tipped  [cen] ing pocket change
always tip big folks
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 06, 2011, 03:58:28 PM

Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Flashwerewolf on February 08, 2011, 03:04:04 AM
if everyone tips big, then it should just be added to the price. This is the flaw of tipping.
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 08, 2011, 03:58:48 PM
you tip 15-20% it's not that difficult of a concept "Oh my bill is $10, I'll leave $2 for the waiter/waitress"
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: ChickanBone on February 08, 2011, 06:23:09 PM
I never tip because they always expect more from what you don't have to give..

If I do tip I leave a dollar or 50 cents. IdontGaF!

Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: ChickanBone on February 09, 2011, 04:26:33 PM
I work a minimum wage job getting just as much as most restraunt opperators why don't they get a job that pays more?? rather than complain about their bad establishment and the customer itself has to give them their payroll. You are right gawd people "Employers" NOW adays??
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 09, 2011, 09:24:07 PM
:L Totally like talking to a brick here.
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Flashwerewolf on February 10, 2011, 05:12:29 AM
Tips are for going the extra mile, not all waiters/waitresses go the extra mile. To tip 100% of the time would mean that everyone went the extra mile 100% of the time. Tipping isn't mandatory so why would anyone get upset if they don't get a tip? ENTITLEMENT ISSUES, PEOPLE.

Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: ChickanBone on February 10, 2011, 10:10:26 PM
:L Totally like talking to a brick here.

Isn't that kind of contradicting? I stated my opinion and you are the one trying to force yours on mine haha lol.

Just saying lol and yes I am a brick I'm stubborn :P but I know it!! everyone is one..
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 10, 2011, 10:36:33 PM
No I'm not, I was simply stating that yes you are stubborn. ;P Stating a character trait isn't being contradictory and I'm forcing nothing, but I don't think people will honestly get it if they've never worked for tips

Uhm I have worked for tips...

I know the difference between a good job and a shitty job.

Did I say contradictory? Not trying to be blunt I meant Hypocritical
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: Adelaide on February 10, 2011, 10:59:25 PM
It's not hypocritical either o.o its stating a character trait...
Title: Re: Tipping
Post by: ChickanBone on February 10, 2011, 11:01:31 PM
I'm just saying that you judged me lol then you called me a brick XD!

Tipping in my "opinion" doesn't have to be my priority and it doesn't make me a worse person for feeling sorry for someone not getting tipped. I'm not paying them their employer is.
Title: Re: Tipping

the 'judging' defense, everyone judges each other at all times, thus the 'judging' defense is useless to mention.
