In this time, the world is where man-eating demons called Yoma roam. To fight against the Yoma, the humans created female soldiers that are half Yoma and half human. They have silver eyes and large swords(claymores) which they are named Claymore after.
When Claire was a child, she met Theresa, the strongest Claymore. To save Claire, Theresa broke their iron clad rule to kill humans. Because of breaking the rule, she was said to be punished to death. Pricilla, a member of the same organization creating Claymores, couldn't control the Yoma power(they call it Yoki) she held as well as she emotions, and turned into an "Awakened Being". Then, Theresa was killed by the power of Pricilla(out of a cheap shot). To avenge Theresa, Claire decided to inherit Theresa's flesh to become a Claymore.

This anime starts out a little slow. Believe me, after the fourth episode you won't be able to stop watching since it really picks up. The anime is filled with some gore so get used to it. =P This is one of my favorite anime series.
