Canadian man killed in ‘couch surfing’ stunt

A young Canadian man was killed in a treacherous “couch surfing” stunt on a rural road near Quebec City over the weekend, and a fellow daredevil is facing multiple charges in his death.

Francois Halle, 22, and two pals were riding on a sled-mounted couch being towed by a speeding van on Saturday when the sofa rig slid into oncoming traffic and was hit by another car, CBC News reported.

Halle died later at a local hospital. The two others were not injured, authorities said.

Cops say the driver of the van, Alex Labbe, 21, fled the scene but was later collared at his home in Saint-Georges.

On Monday, he was charged with dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence and fleeing the scene.

One of Labbe’s pals told CBC News that the driver panicked when he saw Halle’s mangled body lying on the country road.

‘It’s not like he fled because he didn’t want people to know it was him,” Yan Laflamme told the station.
