Since no one else seemed to care about teh holiday! hmph! Teehee jk c:
Happy Veteran's Day guys, even though most people don't even really acknowledge this holiday (I know I shrugged it off before i was in the military) it is always good to reflect back on all the men and women who have served, continue to serve, or will serve, and have that sense of gratitude that we are where we are thanks to the sacrifices they've made and the obstacles they've faced- I don't really count myself as part of this, since I've only trained thus far, but for those deployed, coming home from deployment, or getting deployed, I wish them health and safety and a return home in the same if not better physical, mental and emotional condition they left in. :) Especially those currently leaving Iraq.
I have a few friends I'm wishing well; a friend from my drill weekends back home is going to be headed to Iraq, my roommate and myself as well as another RSP drill weekend battle buddy are all going to Kuwait together, and well, I'm wishing the best for us all, especially my friend going to Iraq, as that's the most dangerous of these deployments.
Kinda looking forward to experiencing the new culture of Kuwait. :) It's an allied middle eastern nation, small, and quite a bit more westernized then commonly found in the middle east. Women can work outside the home, they can wear western styles, like blue jeans and blouses, without being thought of as whores. and they've a bit more rights than Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, or nations of similar style. I also plan on visiting a mosque- i hear the prayer ceremonies and beautiful to experience. :) Its still very male dominated, they can have 4 wives, and everything, but the culture is more open minded to women's rights and moving closer towards it. ^_^ There are still Iraqis there, and that's what I'm supposed to be doing- pushing Iraq forces back into Iraq and out of American Allied Forces soil, but I plan on experiencing more than just the military purpose I'm sent there to fulfill. c: I'm optimistic about my deployment!
Anyway, I had a very long Veteran's day. I have today through Monday off, for the holiday (don't worry guys I am still getting paid for it :Dc ), but I've got duty 3/4 days. Today I had fireguard 1200 to 1800 (noon to 6pm) but a lot of females are on leave for the weekend, so there's not many here for duty, so when i saw the sergeants struggling to find me a relief party, I volunteered to take the next shift, so i'm 1200-2400 (noon to midnight). Has been a long 12 hour shift haha. Tomorrow's my only day off xP then Sunday i have driving duty (gonna be issued a van to drive around, taking soldiers to the hospital or where ever they need to go) and then fireguard for another six hours on Monday. Then back to PT and school Tuesday c:
BUT YEAH! Enough ranting from meeee haha, happy Veteran's day guys c: and always remember to thank soldiers for their service whenever you catch them around. ^_^ Its nice to do, and helps remind them why they do what they do.
