I believe that Jhonen Vasquez was ahead of his time when he created this show. If you look at some of the cartoons today, "Chowder," "Flapjack," "Adventure Time," and even the direction that Nickolodeon's cartoons (the few that remain) have taken, they're all in the same psychotic, almost random mindset this show was in. If "Zim" had come out now rather than when it did, I think it may have stood a better chance of getting network approval as opposed to being viewed as outlandish and getting the boot when it did.
