I have to say that Final Fantasy 13 was horrible.
It held your hand on a linear leash of hell for 30 hours then expected you to explore the barren wasteland of nothingness! I don't want to do quests, this isn't WoW! or is it.
I disliked it. Truly, madly, deeply. The combat system wasn't that bad but I eventually just mashed X, and tapped L1 to switch jobs once or twice and called it good.
I hope FF15 is better.

Suckage

I dislike the FF series since FF8. Then they brought it back for me with FF9. Then they ripped open my wounds inflicted by FF8 but healed by FF9 with FF10 and since then it's been downhill.

FF11 was online so that doesn't count. I played it, and hated it.

Yeah I like 8 the most, because the story interested me and it was more serious and I suppose "mature" than the other ones. But I am comfortable knowing the games I like are dry and boring. It was the first FF to actually look nice, which was a plus at the time it came out, tho looking nice hasn't been such a great strategy for them ever since.
Playstation2 RUINED the FF series plain and simple. I'm glad their games are on the xbox now, as it will either fix the monarchy PS had or just turn the series into a FPS.
FF10 irks me the most, as they spent all their effort on it looking nice. They used the NES dungeon strategy for the whole game for christ sakes.
7 was great because it was so creative and abstract, 9 was good cause it was pure fantasy and no bullshit, 12 was 'european' and had only monster cameos to tie it to the FF series.

Meh FF8 was a horrible convoluted story that made no sense. Filled with plot holes as big as the galaxy we're in.

I disliked how you had to DRAW magic. It was lame.

I might just play FF9 again now.

I have it, I'm looking at it. :O

Ah, thats why I liked it oddly enough. I love the idea of sucking the life from things in games and thus liked drawing magic from the monster that I would then use to end its life. I have drain life MtG decks, and in games usually go for whatever build lets me draw away the life of my victims.
Its a JRPG so the ridiculous potholed story is to be expected. I liked the character relations a lot, they were very deep and complex. The characters were more interesting to me than in other RPGs.
Wild Arms 1 is still my favorite RPG of all time tho.

Wild Arms was good stuff.

I donno I just don't think the writers for FF8 thought we knew what a good story is.

I mean the guy in the cowboy hat just was like OMG DUDES WE ALL GREW UP TOGETHER DUHHHHH and knew all along ><

Irvine, yeah. I never used him much, he was the cocky outsider in the group so I left him to that. I was disappointed when he turned out to be a big softy who was scared of the world.
Theres a theory of what was going thru the writers minds for FF8 I have saved somewhere, its really long, but hilarious and makes sense in an illogical way.
Pretty much the story was you were mercs who got caught up in the upper level struggle between big groups that included crazy witches.
