Why not a 12 or 16 Playoff? because an 8 Team playoff is the best of Both worlds, What makes College football great now and always has is the fact that to contend for the title game you need a perfict or almost Flawless Season and you need it against tough opponents Most BCS championship games are a matchup of a 12-0 Team vs a 11-1 team which both undeniably have had High ranked teams in their schedule and it keeps the regular season Forever intresting because that 1 Loss at any time against any opponent can be the difference of a championship bid or playing in a lesser bowl, Atleast with keeping it in the Top 8 now teams could be afforded 2-3 losses while still haveing a chance to prove themselves, and it wont go into the other problems of Once you get past the top 10 you get into issues of opionions on strength of schedule teams with 3-4 losses and also Many teams in the same conference who just played eachother in the conference championship games which already eliminates the need for a 3-4 round 12 or 16 team tournament, Every year for as long as ive watched college football in full depth and watching every week and over 2/3rds of the bowls (since 1996) it is not hard to see which teams really have no place in the bcs bowls and which teams are really good, the problems come when you have 1-2 Unbeaten teams and or 1-3 11-1 teams and only 2 Teams total can play in the championship game, the rest will get honored and sent to a High promenent BSC bowl and earn their colleges 8-13 Million$ and the games will be great to watch but winning the matchup is a consolation This is why we deserved to be in the last game and we proved the pollsters wrong but we cant get anything for it.
Intrestingly to the current systems favor, several Seasons have gone where one tight 3 point loss Ruined a teams chance to play in the BCS chapionship game and then was Proven right not to be in the game by their perfomance in the Other promenent bcs games, Most notably in my mind last year when Florida Beat Alabama in the Acc title game, Alabama 11-1 Still ranked #4 had to play #5 Utah 12-0 and UTAH kicked the Snott out of alabama, and 3 years ago i believe, on the last week of the Big 10 Schedule, Michigan Played in Ohio Both Teams unbeaten and OHio won the Shootout 38-35 simple 3 point margin both teams looked great, well, Ohio made it to the BCS title game, and Michigan went to the rose bowl against USC, and USC just Krushed Michigan, it was not even a close game, USC just had More speed on offence and the corners for michigan didnt have enough spead and USC could just pass pass and pass, no contest and yet it was a #5 USC vs # 6 Michigan matchup. also of note Ohio Lost the BCS game to florida as the ACC and the Big 12 showed that the Deffences of the best Big 10 Teams could not keep up and were not fast enough to stop what all the teams in those respective conferences are used to facing all the time, its things like that, that fuel the arguements of which connference are the best in college football and its incredibly argumentative and hard to have factual honest opinions on which team is the best from any conference when you have teams in the ACC & SEC who easily have some of the fastest and skilled players in the nation that can do things to Big 10 and Big 12 Teams who can Look great and unbeatable against their own conference or Style of play, Honestly the 11 & 12 game season schedules the colleges play Weed out most of teams that dont deserve a chance its making it fair for the 4-5 teams who have Magical unreal Special seasons when theres only 2 Spots to play for the Big prize thats the goal here.
