Title: Trav's awsome links/random misc stuff topic
Post by: Nocturnous on November 30, 2007, 07:24:55 PM
I decided to make a topic where I post all cool things I find online, for anybody bored.

My first link is to a band I recently discovered called tesseract they are unsigned from the u.k.  listen to their song sunrise.

My second is from a guy I know named Bulb who has a band called Periphery they got a new singer and I think this will go over with you guys well.  Complex heavy polyrhythms with melodic singing actually work for me

well polyrhymical music first off is music that has several meters going on at once but they overlap and lock in.

This is very complicated and I do it in my music as well.

here is a breakdown of polyrhythms with just drums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0dHG16u6Qc

If I were a guitarist I would create my own meter that works with his and locks with his.

Meshuggah does this best, but when you lsiten to those links listen to the guitar and the bass and how they work with the drums it may just blow your mind away. They are like drugs to me.

here it is with a drummer and a guitarist if they are good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIdjLw-7Xa0

:D

OH OK. I know Meshuggah. I like the intro to the second band, and yeah I can hear the polyrhythm thats going on. I'll have to listen and see what music I have that use polyrhythms.

You have to really isolate the guitar rhythm and listen to the drums he may do his rhythmical hits two on the bass then skip a beat then hit one on a snare.  and then change it the next bar.

either way when done successfully the song should sound like one big rhythm machine working together.

I wouldn't mind putting a few on my Mp3 player and showing it off to a few friends.

If you have fire fox with download helper you can download any music off myspace, granted it will be in the converted mp3 format which is less in quality.
